Bupa

Loving the simplicity of the Bupa adverts at the moment. A gentle way to introduce a complicated, upsetting topic using bold colours and basic graphics. It says all the initial information in small chunks so it is easier for the audience to digest and come to terms with.

From Keetra: Photobooth

A stunning piece of work fromKeetra. I think it's a really interesting, artistic way to try and communicate people's personalities and thoughts - something I could really apply to my current project. These images were made through an installation where people would enter, pose for two shots, and leave. The outcome would end up like these examples depending on the person and create a playful way of analysing people. Lovely piece of work. More examples can be found here.

Rethink Scholarship

This video demonstration is great! I love the interactivity and thought process that has gone behind it to advertise scholarships, it's motivating and inspirational and makes me want to produce something like that too. The video shown above is the call for 2010 entries. More examples can be found here.

Patrick Fry: Naughty or Nice

Patrick Fry's project Naughty or Nice is simple but effective. It is something everyone can relate to through to use of a simple object to represent the words. It would be good to see this project extended further to see a range of things, however as a starting point this is nice.

Renee Fernandez

This poster design caught my eye as it appears to reflect something trapped in the body of something else, in this case, a wolf in a sheep's body or vice versa. The simple shapes used still communicates the animals and the limited use of colour palette compliments the design. Find more at http://wrenfern.com.

I Like To Ride My Bicycle In The City

I pulled this from Change The Thought design blog which I found really interesting, unfortunately I cannot find who did it! It's a real feel good poster using positive bright colours, bold text and communicating the message simply and effectively. I love it. Could I incorporate representing feelings and moods through use of simple typography and print?

Tim George

This is a book about finding inspiration by Tim George. I found I related to it as it's exactly how I'm feeling at the moment! I have the enthusiasm behind my work, I'm just trying to find some inspiration from somewhere to push me in the right direction, this gave me a kick start. The layout is somewhat different to 'normal' books which also created an impact for the reader. Good work, I like it.

Kyle Bean

I love this piece by Kyle Bean. He has taken an everyday object that people need and use and made it more interesting. This was an approach I had considered to take my final project in order to deliver newspapers and the media in different ways, ways that people would find fun and interesting. The main headlines are first seen when the paper is opened, the story is written down the sides. It is a fun, interactive way of reading. Something to consider when making an editorial piece or a publication - how can it be improved and differ from the rest?

You Might Like This

I found this on youmightlikethis.com which I thought tied in quite nicely with my current project about depression. I love how simple it is and straight to the point. Flow diagrams make results obvious. Could this be a direction I take to simplify the thoughts about depression? Or could it be a way to simplify and help communicate the reality behind depression in order for everyone to gain better understanding?

"They cut all the clutter out, take away that dastardly personal thing called ‘emotion’ and present you back with clear cut options and their subsequent outcomes." Taken from www.youmightlikethis.com.

Oscar Diaz: The Ink Calendar

The Ink Calendar, a fascinating piece of design. It has been designed in a way that it is timed perfectly to record what day it is. The ink is absorbed slowly and the numbers are coloured daily. It has been made this way to demonstrate time passing. The same process is repeated each month, assuming the colour of the ink gets changed.
Really inspirational piece of work by Oscar Diaz.

Saxsofunny

This design concept by Saxsofunny is intriguing. It feels like something I should have thought of, but never even considered. Such a simple application to convey to simplest of messages. Combining graphic design with sound through representation of materials is a route to consider and apply to my self initiated design work. It broadens the mind, the scope of what is achievable and instantly separates you from the norm.

Shahee Ilyas

This is just a small selection of the hundreds of flags Shahee Ilyas has transformed into pie charts. Each sector of these piecharts is proportional to the area of the colour on the respective flag. It is an innovative and simple way to transform a design into something quite abstract in comparison.
It would be quite interesting to know what each of these colours mean to each country too?

Michael Spoljaric

Loving the pure simplicity of this piece. Who said design had to be complicated? Note to remember. The work of Michael Spoljaric. Looks like he's been mega busy working for Nike! Plenty more examples of his work on his website. You can tell what sport it represents and all you need is a pair of feet and a glimpse of the legs. Really good stuff.

Meredith Norton: Lopsided

This book cover is so simple, straight to the point and really effective. For people who don't know about Breast Cancer, would immediately be able to identify that it's a negative subject/thing to happen. It's not an easy thing to come to terms with but Meredith Norton has created humour as her key ingredient to facing the disease. This sums up in a few simple words. Great piece of design. Eight

This logo...just a little bit good. It is very cleverly designed with a typeface where every letter is a variation of the number 8. It's wicked! Find more logos like this with hidden factors here.

Effecktive Design

I found this on www.effektivedesign.co.uk and thought it was an amazing yet original way of presenting yourself to clients. This particular piece of work was a poster mailer which was sent out to various clients in Australia as self promotion before he moved out there himself. He is now back in the UK selling these mailers as bits of artwork. I may just have to buy one! It's such a unique way, and extremely 'effektive' particularly in how he has edited his work, but also put some clear statements as if talking to the client themselves. Sentences such as 'I would be delighted to meet and show you my work in person', really grabs the viewer and makes you believe it. It speaks for itself. Definitely something I'd be proud of! [See more of this at the link above.]

Behance: Jihad Lahham

Extracted from www.behance.net. I think this book is absolutely fascinating. I love everything about it and a believe it is a definite source of inspiration. This structure has been really well considered and the graphic design element is extremely uplifting. It's good stuff.

Jokke-Svin

Here's a link that was being passed around facebook, and pretty much extracts the Michael out of us graphic designers. However, as much as we don't want to, we can all relate to it! Maybe it's time to reconsider how we present our work...

Made By Six

Absolutely loving the embossed typography. The cover of this book looks really clinical and crisp. Find out more at www.madebysix.com/#studio

And would you look at that...I am. I found the Blast'd series interactive and interesting to look at. It was a bold concept that worked really well, and delivers itself using an enterprising representation. See more of the collection at madebysix.com/#project.
